Your modern political division is actually an ancient survival feature. Research by psychologist Jonathan Haidt reveals that our minds are pre-wired with different moral traits because a prehistoric tribe needed both sides to survive.
Ancient conservatives were the essential guardians of stability. With high thresholds for loyalty and purity, they protected the borders, unified the group, and enforced critical hygiene taboos. Without them, the tribe would have been destroyed from the outside.
Conversely, ancient liberals were the essential innovators and diplomats. Driven by care and fairness, they traded with foreign tribes, integrated new technologies, and challenged corrupt leaders.
The tribe survived precisely because both personalities worked as a team. Today, politicians weaponize this wiring to divide us. A healthy country requires both the conservative impulse to preserve and the liberal impulse to innovate. Survival still requires the whole tribe.
